Viola’s are great colourful hardy edible flowers.
Similar to its sister the pansy, viola stands up to cold weather as well as to heat. Viola is a compact plant with dainty looking flowers that veil its true sturdy nature. Violas look great in a hanging basket, balcony troughs or clay pots which bring a huge burst of colour, or plant many of them in your edible food gardens. Typically treated as an annual, viola will last at least 6 months and will self-seed after giving you years of delight. Viola flowers are edible (as long as they are grown organically) and make unexpected garnishes and salad ingredients. They can also be candied for a frosted effect or used to decorate cakes or other confections.
