Peppermint is an old favourite for herb gardening. A delicious culinary herb, Peppermint plants are known to have a scent that is one of the strongest triggers of memory. There is no commercial pepper mint tea that can compete with a freshly harvested freshly brewed home grown pepper mint tea.
It’s an annual herb which like other mints can be very invasive so thus always advised to plant in a container preventing it from taking over your garden. Pepper mint needs well composted soils and regular watering and will do well in full to partial sunshine.
Commercial uses for pepper mint are probably most familiar to people, but it can also be easily grown and put to a wide variety of culinary and medical purposes in your own home.
Peppermint has been used for ages to help cure headaches, muscle cramps and chronic indigestion problems. The extracted essential oil, Menthol, is found in the plant's leaves and flowers and its soothing properties are useful in lotions, mouthwashes, soaps and candies.
